The Archimedes Project
Opening Reception: Friday, February 7, 7-9 pm
" The Archimedes Project" is an exploration of the measurement of "self" in a way that is foreign to most people. Based on Archimedes principla of displacement, we know that the volume of irregular objects can be measured by submerging them into water and collecting their displaced water. We also know that one gallon of water is equal to 8 pounds so, with little elementary math, a persons' volume in water can be obtained. It has been calculated that a 200 pound person would have the mass of approximately 533 - 6 ounce disposable cups. This work is meant as an attempt to avoid the normative sign systems involved with measurement of self as two or three digit number (namely your weight).

Little Girl Network
March 3 - 7, 2003
Opening Reception: Friday, March 7, 7-9 pm
“ Little Girl Network” is a multimedia show featuring 2D work (prints) as well as 3D installations (ceramic) that deals with the relationship between the present material forms and their ties to whatever memory of them is left behind when they ceases to exist. Network has many definitions; the words most often associated with it are “structure” and “system” which are formed by interlocking channels. The ephemeral quality of the work does not break up the structure that exists, for a work in clay can be made out of the same mold and a print can be printed once more. After the object however, only the information remains.
